When I approached Colleen about writing a monthly column for the motheri/sisteri website, I must admit I was a bit nervous. I am not a writer by trade, nor do I write in my journal every day. Once I started submitting pieces for the website, I realized that I am not alone in facing the day-to-day challenges of a mom, wife, sister and co-worker. The kinds of things you will read in "A Clean Slate" reflect moments that hit me hard and make me want to share. "A Clean Slate" for me means starting each day on the right foot, and using past experience to get through the challenging times. Im A Mother You know me well I visit nice shops covered in spit, dirt and assorted foods. Im A Mother I pray the animal crackers wont run out until after we hit the toilet paper aisle. Im A Mother Even when my head is aching and I can barely see straight, I climb down the stairs to get your orange juice, cereal and toast. Im A Mother Im number one in the number two business. Im A Mother I wont be judgmental of other moms who are having meltdowns in the grocery store ever. Im A Mother If the only way to make you stop crying is to sing the entire score to The Sound of Music, Ill do it. Im A Mother Somehow I can juggle a thousand balls and they all land safely in their places by nighttime. Im A Mother Just because I am one doesnt mean I have to lose a sense of who I am as a person. Im A Mother I have purchased every brand of macaroni and cheese ever made. Im A Mother I exercise, eat right and sometimes end my day with a scotch on the rocks. Im A Mother Today my son accidentally kicked me in the face. I screamed so loud that the entire neighborhood heard me. Im A Mother Then I sat cowering in the corner of my sunroom waiting for the police to arrive. Im A Mother Where else would you find such excellent wages and benefits? Im A Mother I may not be the bombe, but my two kids sure are. |
